Confidence is crucial. It empowers young people to seize opportunities and achieve their full potential. In these two videos, our principals and one of our Grade 11 students share how King’s Cross Academy builds confidence and encourages students to dream big.
Public speaking builds confidence
Public speaking helps students overcome the fear of expressing themselves in front of others. It improves their communication skills and gives them the ability to convey their ideas effectively, skills that matter in IGCSE oral exams, university interviews and every job they will ever have.
In our small classes, every student gets the chance to present, answer questions and share their opinion, in a room where mistakes are part of learning.
When I first came, I never answered teacher’s questions because I was quite a shy kid. Now I can speak in public with confidence, because my friends and teachers respect and listen to me when I speak.
Tristan, Grade 11
Tristan also told us that when he cannot answer a question correctly, his teachers don’t criticise him. They sit him down and teach him the correct way, and help him step out of his comfort zone. That is exactly the kind of classroom we want every child to have.
Thinking big with dream journaling
“At King’s Cross Academy, we are encouraged to do dream journaling,” says Principal Alanis Lee. Students write about their wildest dreams and ambitions, which fosters creativity and imagination and helps them think about what they want to achieve.
But we’re not just dreaming big. With goals written down, teachers and parents can help students plan the steps to get there, from choosing the right IGCSE subjects to preparing for what comes after. As Principal Elaira Soon says, we’re turning dreams into reality.
At King’s Cross Academy, we prepare our students to be confident and ready for anything that comes their way.
